Chapter P-30.3 - The Provincial Health Authority Act

This Act amalgamates Saskatchewan’s 12 Regional Health Authorities into a single Provincial Health Authority. Additionally, the Act:

  • Grants the minister authority over the initial start-up and organizational structure of the new Authority;
  • Provides rules respecting the transition from the previous Authorities to the new Authority;
  • Grants the Lieutenant Governor in Council authority to appoint a board of directors of up to 10 members, which is responsible for administering the affairs and conducting the business of the Authority;
  • Sets out the powers and responsibilities of the new Authority and the minister;
  • Authorizes the Lieutenant Governor in Council to appoint the first chief executive officer for the new Authority, and the Authority to appoint any subsequent chief executive officer on the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council;
  • Allows for the continuation and creation of community advisory networks to provide the new Authority with information and advice on specific community perspectives, trends, issues and priorities regarding health services; and
  • Carries forward existing provisions of The Regional Health Services Act respecting matters such as accountability and reporting structures.
This Act came into force on December 4, 2017.
