Title: The Automobile Accident Insurance (General – Safe Driver Recognition) Amendment Regulations, 2016

Minister: Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Government Insurance

Summary: On October 12, 2016, these regulations will amend RRS A-35 Reg 4 to reflect changes to the Safe Driver Recognition (SDR) program, including:

  • Doubling the financial penalties from $25 to $50 per demerit point;
  • Including less severe speeding infractions in the program at two demerit points each;
  • capping safety ratings at +25 points;
  • growing the maximum discount by 1% for each point after +20 to a maximum of 25% after five years;
  • changes how demerit points are assessed for multiple incidents (a situation involving both a motor vehicle accident and conviction); and
  • change how demerit points are assessed for at-fault collisions so that collisions with a claim payout under $700 are assessed four demerit points and those with payouts of $700 or more are assessed six demerit points.
