Title: The Vehicle Impoundment (Unauthorized Driver) Amendment Regulations, 2013

Minister: Minister of Crown Investments, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Government Insurance

Summary: (1) Subject to subsection (2), these regulations come into force on the day on which section 1 of The Traffic Safety Amendment Act, 2013 comes into force.

(2) If these regulations are filed with the Registrar of Regulations after the day on which section 1 of The Traffic Safety Amendment Act, 2013 comes into force, these regulations come into force on the day on which they are filed with the Registrar of Regulations.

These regulations will amend RRS T-18.1 Reg 1 to enable a peace officer to impound a vehicle pursuant to section 280 of The Traffic Safety Act if:

  • A vehicle abandoned or parked on a highway is a hazard to other road users;
  • The driver of the vehicle is incapable of operating the motor vehicle as a result of alcohol or drugs, has been suspended under the Act from driving and another cannot assume control of the vehicle; or,
  • The driver is incapable of operating the motor vehicle as a result of a medical condition and another driver cannot assume control of the vehicle.
